life can be cruel
thus, i choose to be kind
search for the good within all human kind
make the vows that true hearts bind
find a childhood left behind
live for today so tomorrow can find me
leave myself clues in the hope they’ll remind me
alter my course and then venture forth blindly
spare sparing thoughts for all those who despise me
life can be cruel
thus, i choose to act kindly
incline to the true blue inside me

should i make friends
then i do so for keeps
always remember
the world seldom sleeps
never assume i possess all the answers
even foredoomed
take the share of my chances
breathe the clean air upon leading advance
dare to be different
considered of heart
leave trails of breadcrumbs in each piece of art
do so of tenderness charmed

speak to the many with chosen few words
seek to enrapture through chapter and verse
something for nothing and nothing perverse
not one for bluffing
of cunning averse
such is forthcoming when numbing our senses
asking attack as to where best defense is
suddenly life takes on different complexion
little but object of lesser affection
should i make friends
then i do so for keeps
such is my chosen direction

life can be cruel
thus, i choose to be kind
leave all the anal retention behind
search for the good within all human kind
make the vows true blue hearts bind
we may not speak for a week, month or year
yet, through words like these
we are never more near
said at the start
i’d be true, real, sincere
every last artery crystalline clear
time and again i’ve been misunderstood
but i have blind faith
one fine day we’ll come good

look through the trees to the spellbinding wood
rise from our knees and release mourner’s hood
should we make friends
we should make them for keeps
populate shouldn’t with reasons we should
build the foundations
remain forward facing
embracing with grace every dream famed for chasing
enemies translating friends for the making
this is how we tend to reawaken

life is less cruel
when we choose to be kind
search for the good within all human kind
make the vows true blue hearts bind
pay mindless absence no mind
all of us fall
the cool trick is to rise
put out the call
deny cruel to be kind
should we make friends
then for keeps not pretend
we have and hold something unique to no end
dare to be different
considered of heart
feast on the breadcrumbs in each piece of art
reach for the skies and make prize of the stars
do so of tenderness charmed
and maybe, just maybe, with blind faith unchanging
the world is right here
in our palm

This piece is gorgeous and drives to a powerful heart-filling ending. Your gift is precious, Richard. It is to be cherished always. Thank you for such beauty. Our world needs it.

    1. You know, I forget the last time I actually existed here in the comments tab for any longer than a few seconds. For as much as we all need to hear nice things about something we place our hearts and souls into, I suffer from the same mortal affliction as we all do. Taking a compliment is not an easy deal. That being said, it leads to the very queasiest of feels. Every time words are placed here, alongside whichever piece of art I have shared, they mean most. And, after six years of plying my trade, I finally feel at home responding to such praise with the warm glow it has provided me.

Our world does need beauty. And I am eternally honoured that you see my art as such.
