Listen to My Father—The Hero by Richard Charles Stevens (The Mission Suite)

Listen to Falls by Ennio Morricone

my father
the hero
my father
the brave
it seems like only yesterday
that i last saw your face
you lived your life consistently
with dignity and grace
from now until infinity
i vow to do the same
to live out loud and proudly in your name

in my dreams
i see you
with a crown atop mane
it could only be you
running stoutly through my veins
holding on devoutly
as you soundly take the reins
and every thrifty boundary
then swiftly falls away

my father
the hero
i bask in your sheer glow
and fear no untimely demise
for even in death
to the endmost breath
you reminded me of light behind the eyes

this is why i idolize
for even with your muscles wasting
still you found the time to raise a smile
taught the art of self-effacing
cooled the water i knelt facing
warmed my heart when all embracing
braved the extra mile
through each tribulation and its correlating trial
in sickness
yet in best of health awhile

my father
the hero
my father
the brave
it seems like only yesterday
that i last saw your face
you lived your life consistently
with dignity and grace
from now until infinity
i vow to do the same
to live out loud and proudly in your name

once was a child
with wide eyes of wild abandon
held my father’s hand tight
in delight of my companion
even in the dead of night
i’m disinclined to sadden
for gladdening are springs within which you reprise your standing
nothing could see broken our unspoken understanding
guess the apple never left the tree

daddy dearest
i see clearest
in your shade
both brave and fearless
under no duress of what is meant to be
life is elementary
with you to ride aside
every time the gray skies creep
you steep the highest tide
in my keep
your essence for all time hereby assigned
shall teach this crazy diamond how to shine
my father
the hero
most divine
