Golden Falls (Steep Cliffs Suite)

Golden Falls is a poem dedicated to my forever friends at Storytellers, a safe place for local creatives to share; inspired by their legendary Box of Imagination. The original version has previously been published in All of Me Vol. III, courtesy of Shadow Spark Publishing. Featured art is by Mario Sánchez Nevado.

Listen to Safe in the Steep Cliffs by Emancipator

There’s a message in the bottle
Precious few will discern
There are riches held within
Sterile stitches saved in time
There are lessons to be learned
There’s a wealth of just cause
To find reasonable rhyme
In the eyes of a fool

Midst the frowns and the jeers
There are tears of a clown
There are queer puppeteers
There are proud buccaneers
There are ten thousand years in the tick to each tock
There’s a grandfather clock with no need to be wound

There are upstairs
And down
Setting scene in-between
There are kings
There are queens
There are throne rooms and crowns
There are things so profound in the stone tombs surrounding
Sanctified grounds of resounding to-do

There’s a room with a view and another one too
There are two sides to every story
There are glorified guts jutting forth from Venturi
Half cut as they take inventory
There’s an orgy of reasons to forge all four portly seasons into one
There are undiscovered regions in allegiance of a tale not yet begun
There are Polynesian suns that slum with undone Friesian moons
Dishes not so keen to be seen mixing with the spoon
Midsummer night dreams setting scenes so obscene that the long winter nights are too tired to resume

There’s a message in the bottle
Weathered feathers in its plume
Bleeding hearts raising mast
To advance through the gloom
There are lessons to be learned
There’s a wealth of just cause
To find reasonable rhyme
In the eyes of a fool

There’s a message in the bottle
Weathered feathers in its plume
Bleeding hearts raising mast
To advance through the gloom
There are lessons to be learned
There’s a wealth of just cause
To find reasonable rhyme
In the eyes of a fool

There are upstreams
And down
Mystic river runs between them
There are final breaths aplenty
With the time and sense to breathe them
Lending weight to the fates of every destiny in waiting
Making plain the terrain so suggestively abating
Staking claim on charade as it strains to discern
Of the message in the bottle
Of the lesson to be learned
For there are treasures to discern
Golden falls of just cause
To find reasonable rhyme
In the eyes of us all

There are upstreams
And down
Mystic river runs between them
There are final breaths aplenty
With the time and sense to breathe them
Lending weight to the fates of every destiny in waiting
Making plain the terrain so suggestively abating
Staking claim on charade as it strains to discern
Of the message in the bottle
Of the lesson to be learned
For there are treasures to discern
Golden falls of just cause
To find reasonable rhyme
In the eyes of us all
