You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
.
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the sum of resuscitated parts
You are more handsome
For every faded scar
Paid a king’s ransom
To decorate a Tsar
Yours are the hands on an elevated heart
Making grand plans
On accelerated path
You are the anthem
Of celebrated star
Waiting on the serenade to start
.
Dancing in the flames
To enchant them as you pass
Chancing each vein
To supplant with native charm
Naked to the bones
Casting weighted robes aside
Sacred when enthroned
With the grace of ocean tide
Breaking token chains
To a broken state of mind
Open to the changes made
To paint you back to life
Owed to recreative days
Ahead of dead of night
Hopeful in the faith
Of an angel bathed in white
.
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
.
You are the anthem
You are the stars
Yours the expanse of an elevated heart
Yours is the compassion
Fashioned avidly from psalm
Massively impassioned bleeding
Savage seas to calm
Emphatically lavish dreams
Elaborately darned
Painting operatic scene
Mortality apart
You are the anthem
Of celebrated star
Waiting on the serenade to start
.
Favoured reinvention
When staving off the blight
Unwavering attention
To remaining true to type
Laboured apprehension
As to claiming proven right
Favouring abstention
From resentment humanlike
Nevermore distracted
From the glimpse of all things bright
Evermore adaptive
To the black pitch dead of night
Every fate exacted
Faced collapse within your light
Every shade held captive
Traded anguish for delight
.
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
.
You are the anthem
You are the stars
Yours the expanse of a decorated heart
Paid a king’s ransom
To commemorate a Tsar
Placed the bandstand
On an elevated path
Making grand plans
For regenerative scars
Yours is benefaction
Fashioned avidly from psalm
Emphatically lavish dreams
Elaborately darned
Painting operatic scene
With majesty of heart
.
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
Waving for the serenade to start
.
Dashing into flames
Every vein ablaze with chance
Fashioning carnations
Into meditative plants
True from seed
Through root
To shoot
In dedicated stance
Soon to be
Renewed
In bloom
Forever sacred heart
Nevermore belated
To perpetuated dance
Evermore elated
Each accentuated glance
You are the anthem
Of venerated star
Forevermore
Your serenade
To charm
(Forevermore
Your serenade
To charm)
You are the anthem
Of venerated star
Forevermore
Your serenade
To charm
(Forevermore
Your serenade
To charm)
You are the anthem
Of venerated star
Forevermore
Your serenade
To charm
.
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
You are the anthem
You are the stars
.

  1. Anthem makes me dance. I dance with my feet and with my body to the wonderful rhythm of the piece. It also refreshes my soul and brings joy to my heart. I particularly love how the theme of rejuvenation weaves its way like a golden thread throughout. I am ‘resuscitated’, ‘regenerated’, ‘painted’ afresh into a new life. The scars of past traumas are now faded. More than that the scars are now transformed into something even more beautiful, ‘an elevated heart’ that knows a level of compassion that is new and likely would never have existed without the trauma and the scars. I love the transition from ‘waiting on the serenade to start’ to ‘waving for the serenade to start’. An embracing of the renewal, the new picture, the new growth, the new possibilities. I feel like my reflections barely touch the surface of this rich piece, but I wanted to share some of my reflections.
