The Brave That Tamed The Wild

Listen to The Brave That Tamed The Wild by Richard Charles Stevens

Listen to Strangeness and Charm Instrumental by Florence + The Machine

Evenfall came
As the night became of day
The sun had bid adieu
The moon resumed to take its place
This had been a vacant place
For creatures of the night
Mine appeared a blatant case
Of commonplace affright

Tentatively I proceeded
Through the trees and crooks
Breathlessly unheeded
Every fear of years mistook
For here beneath the tall pines seated
Feelings far less stern succeeded
Even lurking shadows greeted
Bleeding keenly underfoot
Leading me to brook
Where open streams ran wild and brave
Some might say naïvely, I made in-road tween the highland lakes
My lifeless face wore slightest trace of brace for the excitement phase
In vibrant faith, a safe place I had claimed

The silent gaze of raven bid no change in its proclaim
That I had happened on the planes of famed parade
Some might say the corvidae bore omen of grave portent to the tribe
This betrayed a truth remained unproved through view of cautious eye
My whitened face invited trace of all embracing smile
The silent gaze of raven did the same thing, all the while

Open streams were mine to claim
Their risqué tide excited me
Frisking my thighs bitingly
Briskly and obligingly
Decisively, with wild and brave
I waded through the shallows
In my wake, the favour of each shadow I embraced
The silent gaze of raven bid the flowing brook persuade
To lead me through the crook
To where the night became of day
Revived within the safe place I had claimed
Here beneath the tall pines seeded
Lounging in the shade
Proud
Devout
Entitled
I am wild and I am brave

Could barely see behind me
For the ties inclined to bind me to the half mast past which made advance unlikely
Most unlike me to remark upon the heart inside my chest
Even less to feel refreshed by its address
Tension and stress
Were no less than hard pressed
Yet still I felt thrilled at appeal to start fresh
Palms pressed against canvas yet to be painted
Sketching attest to get better acquainted
Felt wayward and confess
I very nearly didn’t make it
Through the storm forewarned to pour scorn upon breaking

Could barely feel my fingers
As midwinter bared me naked
Hindered by the splinters and the nip and chill of frost
Bitter pills had lost their flavour
Frittered will refilled and tailor-made to blossom
Thus revealing saviour to the lost

Such changeable behaviour may have been foreseen as failure
Had I not played aviator and leapt bravely from my flesh
Felt wayward and confess
I very nearly didn’t make it
Through remainder of a day hard pressed to change me nonetheless
Death’s caress was blessèd
For it tended to my dressing
And a lifetime evanescing
Favoured daylight nonetheless
Felt only right suggesting that it stay the night
Possessing every vein arraigned by shame to fade and die
Maybe I’m a dreamer
And the streams are all at sea
Howbeit, all I see
Are Eiderdown and Edelweiss
I can live with the poison inside me
My vision need not be denied me
My passion refashioned from childlike remembrance
No longer so ashen
For bright be the embers
Here beneath the tall pines seeded
Lounging in the shade
Proud
Devout
Entitled
I am wild and I am brave

Evenfall came
As the night became of day
The sun had bid adieu
The moon resumed to take its rightful place
This had been a frightful place
For creatures of the night
Yet, mine appeared entitled case
Of even faced delight

My passion refashioned from childlike remembrance
No longer so ashen
For bright be the embers
Here beneath the tall pines seeded
Lounging in the shade
Proud
Devout
Entitled
I am wild and I am brave
