Listen to Pathfinder by Richard Charles Stevens (The Gift Suite)
Listen to The Gift by Way Out West
Compiled from the parts of a heart long at ease
I embark upon safari
Down the pathway
Through the trees
Ill at ease initially
Traditionally perceived to be a mystery
To those who knew my history
Yet missed the mark consistently
When fitting me for disregarded stitchery
Permitting me no elbow room to breathe
.
Lobbying for votes that mine was hobby
Thus denoting the embodiment of rock to dash my hopes
Quoted as an oddity
Some way from a commodity
Remote in methodology
Therefore odds on to choke
My endnotes were declared
While they prepared a heavy dose
Of the reality that actually had fractured me
Disclosed to see the back of me
And bid me adios
.
The closer I became to the compose of closing symphony
The more I felt reposed to all the cloaks that had it in for me
For principally they willed me on
To whimsically reveal a song
Of everlong and every vulnerability prolonged
By my affinity to bleed to feed the throng
.
My heart was long at ease
As I embarked upon safari
Down the pathway
Through the trees
Where I felt halfway to release
Appeasing branches seen as gnarly
Pleased the deepest part of me
To be deemed as a masterpiece
By interleaving arteries conceived
Granting me the elbow room to breathe
.
Setting forth on destined course
Enthroned from unsuspected source
Resting spores protecting me
From rivals sent to pester me
Relying on the best of me
To not amount to much
And thus subjecting me to unrelenting force
.
Compiled from the essence ever present
I became the grateful tenant
As the crescent moon resumed its luminescence
Lessons had been learned
As I returned to adolescence
Where I last caressed the tethers of belief
Cleaved yet never severed
Were my reasons to proceed
With acquiescence to endeavour down the pathway
Through the trees
No mystery
For those who know my history
Will see me strive consistently
To bid reprise to e’er abiding dream
.
E’er abiding dream
E’er abiding dream
Dream
Dream
E’er abiding dream
.
The moon and the stars
(E’er abiding dream)
Are the gift someday
(E’er abiding dream)
.
The moon and the stars
(Dream)
Are the gift someday
(Dream)
(E’er abiding dream)
.
The moon and the stars
(E’er abiding dream)
(Dream)
Are the gift someday
(E’er abiding dream)
(Dream)
.
A heart long at ease
The kind defiant to the breeze
The kind compliant to the streams
Which flow most vibrantly foreseen
Through eyes retired from disbelief
In kind reminding me to breathe
And venture calmly through the hard clay
To a pathway
Arched in trees
Just to plant this one undying seed
.
One undying seed
(One undying seed)
One undying seed
(One undying seed)
(One undying seed)
.
The moon and the stars
Are the gift someday
(E’er abiding dream)
(Dream)
.
The moon and the stars
(E’er abiding dream)
(Dream)
Are the gift someday
(E’er abiding dream)
(Dream)
.
Compiled from the parts of a heart long at ease
I embark upon safari
Down the pathway
Through the trees
(Dream)
(Dream)
.
Compiled from the parts of a heart long at ease
I embark upon safari
Down the pathway
Through the trees
(Dream)
(Dream)
.
Bid reprise to e’er abiding dream
Bid reprise to e’er abiding dream
(Dream)

I see you. The last stanza, in particular. We are blessed to have this chance to read your words. Thank you for sharing them, Richard. Always. I love the opening and closing images you selected for this piece. All of it…absolutely beautiful.
You know how much I see and believe in you. Infinitely.
To those who knew my history
Yet missed the mark consistently
When fitting me for disregarded stitchery
Permitting me no elbow room to breathe
Amen ❤
