The Chordettes “Mr. Sandman”

Life is one long improv
The least rehearsed stage play that we can think of
And at worst
It dashes so fast we can barely catch a glimpse of it in blur
Hear a pin drop
In a hearse
Or learn to chin prop
As we slur
Life is one long improv
Which would make us connoisseurs

Wish to see the universe?
Then take a peek in Robin Williams’ eyes
At twilight just one squint from the sunrise
Nothing scripted
Nothing forced
Love afflicted
Nothing more
Nothing less than unprotesting every blessing suffered for
Knew of what he struggled for
And how to sound unruffled roar
Never mislaid child inside
Played at improv
All his life
Thus in a way
Could never die

Measured by his smile
He stretched a treasury of miles
Ever togetherly
The remedy for every set trial
And while he cleverly concealed revealing tears of a clown
He never cared to leave a cheerless frown
Self-effacing
All embracing
One place safe to place our faith in
Through the fall to each migrating rise
Squint our eyes enough
And we may just see him waving from the skies

Life is one long improv
Which would make us connoisseurs
Provided we delight in it
By cordially inviting it to try its worst
At flooring us when line of sight is blurred
Reminding us that twilight is just one squint from the sunrise
Should we wish to see the universe
Be blinded by its luminance
Then smile with great exuberance
And turn
Dash so fast we barely catch a glimpse of it in blur
That way all this crazy paving makes us connoisseurs

  1. A wonderful devotion to a man who’s battle with both profound depression and dementia sadly took his life. That childlike enthusiasm and energy is something I loved in him as I enjoyed his films as I grew up. He will be beaming at you for this.

And I couldn’t help but laugh at:
    “Hear a pin drop
    In a hearse
    Or learn to chin prop
    As we slur”
