Listen to Altarpiece by Richard Charles Stevens (Generation Suite)
I held her near
And wept a tear
Its shape was unlike water
With no delay
In faith sincere
I knelt down at the altar
.
My head was bowed
My gaze dressed down
For such appeared the favoured mount
From which my teardrop tapered down
Her bare feet to embrace
She of such beguiling grace
The kind that smiles providing aid
A velvet ball gown steeped in lace
Striking eyes of high estate
.
Here in our dreams where the beams ever shine
Reclined beneath shelter of sweltering pine
Seen and heard and felt and tasted
Every platelet celebrated
Keen to further decorate
This one love famed divine
.
This one love famed divine
.
She whispered of a dream to chase
I naturally obliged
Blinded by emitted rays
Both time and space then disengaged
Shattering the rigid chains
My naked soul didst bind
.
Here in this place we can finally be
Blind in our faith and defiantly seen
Every keen moment delightedly seized
For the cries of the faceless have finally ceased
.
Hedgerow blooms led sprightly dance
As we resumed our charmed advance
The night was young yet not unsung
Would come undone in glancing past
Skin to skin and mast to mast
Vast seas in our wake apart
Bastard blades could break no heart
Of such innate elate
.
Fingertips to fingertips
Lips permitted lingered kisses
Fetching each breath as it skips length and breadth
Of sweet anniversary wishes
Sweet anniversary wishes
.
Our truth
So beautiful
Simple and pure
Living for two
I feel safe and secure
Thus I don’t feel it would be premature
To say I shall love her forever
.
Forever
Together
Forever
We tether
.
Whatever the weather
Through petulant storm
Here in this place
I feel blessed
I feel warm
Her wings are my shelter
Wherein I’m adored
I found my true form
In her feathers
.
Whatever the weather
Through petulant storm
Here in this place
I feel blessed
I feel warm
Her wings are my shelter
Wherein I’m adored
I found my true form
In her feathers
.
We savour this place free of wilt unbecoming
Taking our fill as we swill milk and honey
.
