Turning Tide to Distant Lights

I once took a single leap of faith, safe in the knowledge that they never ever fail. And, it never ever did.

What use is lion heart if broken
What use is I love you if nevermore spoken
What use are tears when wept in silence
Kisses when they’re lifeless
What use is guidance when it blinds us
When it binds our wrists and twists the diamonds once permissed into black coals
What use is light within the blackest hole I’ve ever been in
What basis do I have for still believing life goes on
What good is fate when aimlessly prolonged
Whatever became of the one fine day we may just breakaway from blinding pain and skip away down winding lanes
Finding ways to while away the time and space transcended as we venture forth with smile upon our faces

Making daisy chains and taking names of flower faeries
Shaking trees for twigs and berries
Breaking waves in river ferries
When did we misplace our bearings
When was our last breath
Whatever happened to beautiful death
Trying desperately to process
Trying desperately to breathe
Trying desperately to read between the lines when out of sight and mind, declined of time to find the kind of fight inclined to strike the deepest heart of blight and find the beat beneath it
What good is lion heart without a bride left to bequeath it

Whatever comes, these rivers shall forever run within me
This soul of mine nowise creeps so discreetly
These eyes of mine can tell no lies and sparkle when they’re weeping
A hundred thousand uncut diamonds deep inside releasing
My single wish requests your safest keeping
Please never ever fail to keep on leaping
Find a tree to lounge beneath
You may just find me there
Reclining in the shade someplace
Maybe making daisy chains
To tie around those dainty wrists
And kiss them one last time
I miss the way they catch the light each time you slide your tiny waist betwixt the vines with timeless grace and eyes defined by kindliest embrace
I miss your smiling face
Please take mine and find a place to keep it safe and sound

Take this crown of mine as it would only weigh me down
My entire world is upside down, the stars lie at my feet
Sense to me is obsolete, all feeling in retreat
A lion heart once beating hard now greeting card for breakage
Love has stripped me, left me naked
Bared down to the bones
Still refuse belief that nothing’s sacred in this world
Above me, endless space unfurls and destiny awaits me

And, should I never make it to the distant lights that flicker
Then know the end for me will not be bitter when it comes
Peace of mind is highly overrated when sedated
Besides, no second spent with you was truly ever wasted
Faced cold facts and stacked harsh truths
The fact is now I have so precious little left to lose

However, I discern no bitter end for you
There are only through roads back to fortitude within your view
I believe in you and will be seeing you proceeding to the light that blinds the shadows you recede into
Dreams can be forever ours to weave into reality
This is where I wake up, make one final plea to fantasy
There’s magic within me and I am valiantly keen to stride gallantly between the distant lights that lead me blindly to Valhalla
Shall leap with saving grace and one remaining trace of faith
This soul of mine will never ever one time see me fail
And each time that you pass your own reflection
Simply smile
As, all the while
Here’s looking at you kid
