See Me True (The New Yorker Suite)

Listen to See Me True by Richard Charles Stevens (The New Yorker Suite)

Listen to Escape From New York (Deep Mix) by John Carpenter & Alan Howarth

True
See me true
See me true
When I do
You may just see me true
.
True (repeat)
.
Each beat of my heart
Is a piece of me charmed
To proceed free of caution
Remorse or alarm
Ten thousand thoughts yarned into artful mosaic
Sometimes I’m post modern
While others archaic
Should there be something nice to say
Then I’ll most likely say it
And when I do
You may just see me true
.
True (repeat)
.
When I do
You may just see me true
.
True
See me true
See me true
When I do
You may just see me true
See me true
See me true
When I do
You may just see me true
.
I couldn’t dream the way I do
Were I a lie
I couldn’t oversee the view I do
With mistruth in my eyes
.
True (repeat)
.
The skies would fall
The stars would die
The sun would cause the moon to fry
And all the lives I ever led
Would see me to misfortune sped
.
True (repeat)
.
It would be the end of me
Creatively and natively
With only fate awaiting me
Intent on penetrating me
Hell bent on devastating me
To see me greatly bled
(True)
.
Each teardrop I shed
Is sincerely undressed
For so many a year
It appeared I was bereft of every feeling unrevealing as I exited stage left
To bid release to each tear kept
And then collect them in a pendant
To ensure they were remembered
.
True
See me true
See me true
When I do
You may just see me true
See me true
See me true
When I do
You may just see me true
.
Walking barefoot through the embers
Of a mid-September dream
I still believed that one seed may just see me true
.
True (repeat)
.
And thus I could perceive it shoot to bloom
.
True (repeat)
.
Every artist needs a muse
And mine are those who grow suffused
With shades of indigo and violet
Amber dandelion chartreuse
I couldn’t dream the way I do
Without a rainbow in my view
For all of me
Is my address to all of you
Something to believe in
Something true
Something to believe in
Something true
.
True (repeat)
.
My flesh may pale
My heart may fail
My bare feet tread a lonely trail
My dreams ahead be lean and frail
Yet still no harm befalls me
My tears may sting
My wings may scar
My ears may ring
My near be far
Yet still the sight my wide eyes prize enthralls me
.
When labours toiled are heavy laden
Life purloined of steady cadence
Fate conjoined with devastation
I undress its gaze
.
True (repeat)
.
Waltzing through the fays
I hear their whispers of amazement
As they drift into my slipstream
Reminisced of distant days
.
True (repeat)
.
My voice may slur
My edges blur
My lips concur no vested word
My best foot forth may dress no course
Yet always I address with thoughts endorsed of forward motion
.
My voice may slur
My edges blur
My lips concur no vested word
My best foot forth may dress no course
Yet always I address with thoughts endorsed of forward motion
.
True (repeat)
.
My spine may chill
My heart lay still
Its beat discreetly bleed my quill
Yet always it impresses my devotion
(True)
.
True
See me true
See me true
When I do
You may just see me true
See me true
See me true
When I do
You may just see me true
See me true
See me true
When I do
You may just see me true
.
True (repeat)
.

  1. “Of a mid-September dream
I still believed that one seed may just see me true” ~ what a delightful nugget of truth 🥰

The timing with this song really impressed with. This style fuses with you really well.

    1. This was written at a real period of transition for me and I feel its light meloncholia counter-balances the composition well. As you know, Carpenter and Howarth’s theme is my all-time darling of the silver screen and I only bring it out for the right poem. This feels like one such marriage. 🥰🥰
