Jeffree Clarkson “Butterfly”
There is a kindly butterfly
That flutters by the window of my heart
Its fleet wings shutter willingly
To spill within the ramparts finest art
Seeping into every crack
This sweeping ivy climbs
To be the destined friend I left behind
I was but a child when I first gazed upon its Technicolor flight
Skimming stones and skipping rope with no great dearth of blithe
Life was like a bowl of cherries
Glazed by praising eyes
Chasing wild and gaining pace
No place inside for lies
This is why I listened so delightedly to whisperings of butterflies
This is why my scrapbook was so empty all the time
Pressed within the pages seemed so frightful a demise
When they could flutter freely in the kingdom of my mind
Only wish to see a smile inclined
Reacquaint excited child waylaid in fade awhile
Be the destined friend to no arrested end portended
Make me feel both seen and astrophysically protected
No need to be pensive
Fritter inexpensive fears
When I could paint a rainbow from its Technicolor tears
Roll back many years and watch them scatter in its wake
Open my heart’s window
Feel it shutter in my veins
There is a kindly butterfly
That flutters by the window of my heart
Its fleet wings shutter willingly
To spill within the ramparts finest art
Seeping into every crack
This sweeping ivy climbs
The destined friend I never left behind
